2026 Field Service Software Cost & Fit Index

A transparent model-based view of 12 platforms for US plumbing and electrical businesses. It compares the signals buyers can verify before a sales call: price visibility, rollout weight, team fit and buying risk.

Finding 1

A visible price is a starting signal—not total cost.

Only 4 of the 12 modeled products have a numeric public entry price in our checked data. The other 8 require a live plan selection or custom quote. Even public-price products may add users, communications, onboarding, payment or higher-tier workflow costs.

Quote or live selection

ServiceTitan · Workiz · FieldPulse · Service Fusion · Simpro · FieldEdge · Smart Service · BuildOps

Use a month-13 cost test.

Price the system after promotions end and after every required seat, add-on and usage charge is included. Ask the vendor to put the renewal basis in writing.

  • Subscription and every user type
  • Onboarding and data migration
  • Phone, messages, AI and payments
  • Renewal, cancellation and data export

Finding 2

Rollout weight divides the market into three lanes.

Implementation weight is our editorial model—not a vendor rating. It estimates the process change, configuration and training a typical buyer should plan for.

Weight 1 of 3

Lean rollout

Self-serve friendly and usually suitable for a focused small-team trial.

Jobber · ServiceM8 · Kickserv

Weight 2 of 3

Structured rollout

Needs deliberate workflow setup and role testing before launch.

Housecall Pro · Workiz · FieldPulse · Service Fusion · Smart Service

Weight 3 of 3

Change project

Treat selection, migration and training as an operational project.

ServiceTitan · Simpro · FieldEdge · BuildOps

Finding 3

What this index is—and is not.

It is an editorial decision model built from vendor-published product and pricing signals. It is not a customer-satisfaction survey, market-share study or paid placement. Commercial relationships cannot change inclusion or scoring.

Methodology

  1. 1Normalize each product across trade, market, team, workflow, priority, accounting, growth and fleet fit.
  2. 2Weight workflow and capability depth so a shallow checklist does not equal operational strength.
  3. 3Test the scoring engine against 25 representative business personas to catch regressions and artificial ties.
  4. 4Separate match score from cost visibility and rollout weight; the cheapest or most complex product is not automatically best.
  5. 5Recheck vendor pages and require buyers to verify written quotes because plans, prices and terms can change.

Turn the index into your shortlist.

Nine questions produce three explainable matches without vendor payment changing the result.
